I am writing to encourage you to participate in StreetSmart’s Christmas 2007 campaign to raise money for the homeless in south Essex. The Echo is joining forces with the charity StreetSmart to raise cash at a time of year when the needs and neglect of the homeless move us most.
The homeless need more than a handout to get back on their feet and into society so StreetSmart, supported by Deutsche Bank, fund a range of charities. All the cash raised here in south Essex will be spent in the region.
We are asking you to support the campaign by allowing a voluntary £1 donation per table to be added onto your customers’ bills in the two months leading up to Christmas. The idea is simple and is an easy way of raising funds for homeless people and giving them hope.
Last year StreetSmart raised £500,000 nationally thanks to the generosity and goodwill of restaurateurs and their customers. We hope this year to make a significant advance on this figure.
The idea started in London and has now spread to other cities and regions and the Echo is convinced that here in the south Essex your customers will be extremely responsive and generous.
Those restaurants taking part in the scheme will be listed in Echo pages regularly throughout the campaign. We will also be running a number of special articles from the launch in October through to the end of December, encouraging our readers to take part by visiting participating restaurants.
Yours sincerely,
Martin McNeill
