Bristol
Bristol's residents and restaurateurs raised a very respectable £11,500 in 2005. These funds have been distributed between a diverse range of homeless projects all aimed at helping homeless people in Bristol regain their self esteem and their dignity.

A key supporter of StreetSmart, the Evening Post is the charity's official media partner in Bristol. Throughout the campaign the newspaper will be encouraging diners to eat out and help out.

I am writing to encourage you to participate in StreetSmart’s Christmas 2005 campaign to raise money for the homeless in Bristol. This is the sixth year that the charity has campaigned in our area and, the Bristol Evening Post is again delighted to be lending its full support to StreetSmart and its sponsor, Marks & Spencer.

I have no hesitation in endorsing the work of StreetSmart. The charity’s pioneering £1 per table campaign is an ingenious way to raise funds to help the vulnerable and the neglected in our community.

Last year StreetSmart raised £15,500 thanks to the generosity and goodwill of restaurateurs and their customers in Bristol, we hope this year to make a significant advance on this figure. The funds were distributed to local homeless projects Cold Weather Group, Big Issue Foundation, Aspire, Priority Youth Housing, Second Step & Alabare, enabling them to provide emergency accommodation, welfare and health advice, education and employment.

For its part, the Bristol Evening Post will be encouraging its readers to support the scheme by running a series of special features on StreetSmart, and publicising participating restaurants.

In the build up to Christmas, with the emphasis on celebration and enjoyment, we should all spare a thought for those who – usually through no fault of their own – have no choice but to spend their 'festive' season on the street. I hope that you will feel able to support this worthwhile scheme.

Yours sincerely

Mike Norton
