Brighton Voices in Exile
A voluntary charity working with those seeking asylum, refused asylum seekers & refugees – one of the most vulnerable groups within Brighton & Hove. Demand for services is increasing, as more traditional forms of support – family and friends – struggle during the current economic crisis. Brighton Voices In Exile works on a three-tier intervention approach, crisis invention (short-term and intermediate – food and direct subsistence); health, safety and security (housing, legal assistance, referrals, - immediate and ongoing) and integration support which is long term. StreetSmart is funding the crisis intervention aspect of BVIE's work.

Clock Tower Sanctuary
Clock Tower Crisis Fund: Support centre for young homeless people under 25. A local charity, run on a voluntary basis offering support to around 70 homeless and insecurely housed young people between the ages of 16 and 25 each month. StreetSmart is donating money to the Crises Fund. This provides emergency travel to relatives, medical, housing and employment appointments; vital utensils for those moving into their own accommodation; plus footwear. It is also supporting the Clock Tower Appeal In Search Of Home, as the lease on current premises in under threat.

Off The Fence
Project AntiFreeze runs through the evenings from October to March, offering food, warm drink, emergency clothing and sleeping bags to the homeless and rough sleepers in Brighton and Hove. The Charity also runs an advice centre, helping men and women take steps towards longer-term rehabilitation. In the last year it has made 2,257 street contacts and recorded 2.530 visits to its centre. StreetSmart is helping to fund the emergency frontline service, as well as he running cots of the advice centre.

RISE
RISE – standing for Refuge, Information, Support and Education – is a Sussex-based charity working with women and children who suffer domestic abuse. Refuge – the option of last resort, runs alongside many other services, including counselling, housing advice, solicitors appointments, support groups, children's drama therapy and preventative education in schools. RISE runs the only local domestic violence helpline and equipment currently consists of just one household telephone, fielding around 1500 calls per year. StreetSmart is helping to fund a new switchboard, which will enable RISE to to take phone calls at the same time, to direct callers to the appropriate person or service and to divert emergency calls to the right place.
